Land of Illusion posted on its Facebook page Thursday afternoon that the park “is committed to providing a safe and fun recreation destination for our region. We prioritize guest safety and training for our team and diligently comply with all Ohio regulations governing the activities and offerings available at our Aqua Adventure Park.”
The statement said that the waterpark was looking forward to “supporting and collaborating” with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and other state and local officials as they continue their investigations following the tragedy.
Mykiara Jones, 14, a freshman at Middletown High School, apparently wasn’t wearing a life jacket when she entered the water, officials said.
Jones said the investigation may extend beyond his office and he plans on contacting the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for assistance.
Jones told this news outlet that it will be “a big investigation” that has no timetable.
“Our job is to get to the bottom of this,” he said.
In the days since Jones died, the number of complaints has been “staggering,” the sheriff said.
During the fall, when Land of Illusion opens as a haunted house and musical entertainment venue, Jones said his office typically receives complaints about loud noise and traffic from Madison Twp. residents.
Aqua Adventures was closed on Wednesday but reopened on Thursday.
The story was featured on a segment on Good Morning America Thursday morning that also discussed water safety.
Mykiara Jones, who lived near Dayton, was enrolled in the Middletown City School District, because her mother, Erica Richardson, is an aide for special needs students in the middle school, a district official said.
No funeral arrangements have been released.
